Level 7

MUST be able to do 30 press ups



MUST be able to do 10 triceps dips


MUST be able to do 40 sit ups


MUST be able to do 20 squat dips


MUST be able to do a 60 second plank


Kill drive : ball lands 1/3 way back from the front. Player plays Kill Drive - racket high, slices racket down onto ball - imparting backspin. Ball moves fast and low, hardly bouncing.


Reverse Boast : Plays Reverse Boast - BH onto the FH side & FH onto the BH side - ball moves fast and keeps low, dying into the opposite corner.


Trickle Boast : played at front of court - deception to make look like a drive, alter racket angle and play short boast, landing in same quadrant of court (ie not opposite corner) on FH & BH - kills balls


Rear Wall Lob - player can aim rear wall lob at either corner


Player can play drive serves aimed at different areas : body, wall, feet, wrong hand, deep corner - moves to T after


Player can consistently play a volley serve return down the wall.


Player can play a loose serve with a Volley Drop, esp on BH


Player throws ball into corner - runs from T & plays either a straight drive down wall or a boast.


Player plays a volley cross court drive a high feed - ball lands in opposite back corner


Player plays a Volley Smash either straight or cross court - balls heads downwards to wall, hits wall above the Tin and dies onto the floor


Player plays no more than 15% of shots into the Dead Zone and more than 30% of shots into the corners


Player plays boast, coach plays obvious telegraphed drop, player moves to ball BEFORE coach plays shot


Player can also recite what options coach had to play the ball


Player can flick the ball of the near wall to a player behind him/her


Player is starting to combine movement timing with hitting the ball to be in the right place to put body weight & momentum into the ball when the shot is played


Player can watch another player and devise a strategy for playing them


Player can devise shot sequences devised to tire opponent


Player can explain the Stroke & Let Rule - making correct decision to illustrated examples




Level 8

MUST be able to do 40 press ups



MUST be able to do 10 triceps dips



MUST be able to do 40 sit ups



MUST be able to do 20 squat dips



MUST be able to do a 60 second plank



Butterfly 1 : Player stands on T and hits alternate FH & BH into front corners. Keep going for as many as possible.



Push Drive : Players advances to short ball with racket low and in front, wrist cocked. Snap wrist forward to push ball back to mid / rear court.



Can kill a loose serve, either a drop, drive, cross court or volley drop



Can volley or hit return either straight down wall or cross court



Grip Change : Ball lands in rear BH corner - player changes grip to pan handle grip & holds racket up high in front of face. Plays normal BH swing but grip adds lift to the BH drive, putting ball back in BH corner.



Dig out shot from deep corner, using flick or full swing to cross court ball deep to other corner - low,hard, fast



Player can play volley reverse boast to ball played chest high in middle.



Player plays no more than 5% of shots into the "dead zone" and more than 40% of shots into corners



Player plays boast, coach plays obvious telegraphed shot - either drive, boast or drop - players works out the chances of each shot and positions themselves before coach has hit the ball.



Player combines well movement with timing, advancing at right pace to put weight into the ball at impact.



Player can devise game strategy for coming back in a match.



Player can score a match, using English or American scoring, assertively calling out shots that are out or not up. Additional they can adjudicate in let / stroke decisions



A boasts, B drops, A drives, B boasts, A drops, B drives, Repeat - high fitness



A stands on T, B at front corner, C in opposite deep corner, C boasts, B cross court lobs, A tries to hit the lob.



A hits two straight drives to length, then cross courts high to opposite deep corner, then plays two straight drives to length to opposite side - continue



A may only play cross court shots (drive, drop, lob), B plays a normal game





Level 9

MUST be able to do 50 press ups



MUST be able to do 15 triceps dips



MUST be able to do 40 sit ups



MUST be able to do 20 squat dips



MUST be able to do a 60 second plank



SHOULD be able to touch head on knees



Butterfly 2 : Player stands on T and hits volleys alternately to FH & BH corners.



Can do BackHand Serve, moving to T



Coach serves, player plays volley cross court back deep into other rear corner. Moves to T straight away without thinking.



Player can play Volley Reverse Boast Smash - dies in opposite corner



Player plays almost no shots to the "dead zone" and nearly all shots into the corners



Player is fluent at combining movement timing with hitting the ball to the right place to put body weight into the ball at the moment player hits the ball



Player able to control rallies, anticipating well and moving before opponent has played ball



B&C at back feed either straight drop or boast. A at front plays either straight drive or cross court drive



A boasts, B cross court drive, A drive, B drive - repeat - high fitness exercise
